Driving Tours
Spend some time on a Local Tour
North, South, East or West? Which direction to go is the only
question if you are looking for an adventure from Williams Lake.
From lush rainforests and sparkling lakes, to dry semi-arid
desert-like terrains, the following tours offer from one
hour, to multiple days of enjoyment of the historic
and spectacular country in which the Central
Cariboo is set.
With so many roads going in all directions,
driving tours with your RV or automobile are
easy to come by and a great way to see our
landscape and wildlife. If you are interested in
the area's history, perhaps the Alkali Lake/Gang
Ranch tour would be of interest to you. It takes
you to a number of signifi cant points, the main one
being the historical Gang Ranch ... one of the largest
ranches in the province.
Another popular route for its beauty and ruggedness is the
circle tour that goes from Williams Lake to Barkerville. On
this gold rush tour, drive the Likely Highway through Big
Lake until you get to the community of Likely. Here, you may
spend some time at the historic mining museum at Cedar Point
Park, or grab a patch of green grass and enjoy a picnic in the
downtown located along beautiful Quesnel River. From Likely,
travel out to Cariboo Lake and onto the Matthew River Road.
This is a spectacular road, not suitable for a sports car, but
most other vehicles can make it through without diffi culty.
Along the road you can stop at places such as Cariboo Falls,
Ghost Falls, or the Cameron Ridge hiking trail. Following this
road will take you to Barkerville. From here you can travel
through Wells, into Quesnel and then back to Williams Lake on
Highway 97.
